Kids’ Rooms: How to rev up the décor fun

Kids do have preferences when it comes to bedding, colours and furniture, so be sure to incorporate their personal tastes when revamping the bedroom.
Kids Bedroom
Little boys may dream of being superheroes while girls fantasise  of being princesses. Creating rooms where they will be the kings and queens of their castles is easy and fun when you get them involved.
As the kids grow up, a great way to transform the room is by keeping permanent aspects neutral and simply adding and removing décor pieces to update the style or theme.
Girls
Girls may love everything in pink when they are younger, but what happens when they outgrow this phase?
Opt for neutral walls and work in character and colour with bedding, wall art and lighting pieces like the Blossom Desk Lamp from Bright Star Lighting. Another great way to achieve this is by incorporating accents of pink using the Giraffe Fabric by Studio Collection to upholster cushions or make curtains.
Add more colour with the Eames Inspired Elephant Chair from Fivemore and, for a personal touch, allow kids to hang up their artwork and posters of their favourite characters.

When the terrible teens kick in and girls no longer wish to be princesses but rather rock stars, you can change the room without the hassle of starting from scratch. Replace posters and pink bedding and add a work station for homework. Pieces like Cushi’s Buntings Cushion are perfect for a hint of colour in a teenager’s room.

Boys
If your boys are crazy about superhero movies, a themed bedroom is a great idea! But when they surpass that phase and dream of being football stars and musicians, the same rule applies. Keep the permanent aspects like wall colours in neutral shades and use décor pieces to bring in new styles.
For a little superhero fan, keep the room themed with character bedding, curtains and wall pieces. Incorporate a work station and keep it well lit with the Le Havre Table Lamp by Bright Star Lighting. Lighting pieces like these will also easily transition into a teen’s room.

Keeping boys’ bedrooms neat is no easy task, and no one is up for it after playtime! The practical yet creative solution to this is storage. With smart shelving and packing space disguised with trendy design, a piece like the Submarine Toy Box by Yaku is a must-have and is sure to appeal to the little ones too!

The IN Crowd : Miroslava Duma

Miroslava Duma
The fashion world is known for its cut-throat reputation and a pecking order of who deems what is in or out. Holding the fate of designers and models in their hands, are the select few seated at the front rows of top fashion shows, such as the likes of Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. Think Miranda Priestly in the movie, The Devil Wears Prada.

However, when it comes to fashion influence and inspiration, Miroslava Duma is the name on everyone’s lips. She is the former editor for Harper’s Bazaar Russia, and now works as freelance writer for titles like OK Magazine and Glamour. She is also the founder, editor and fashion consultant of the fashion news website Buro 24/7.

Miro, as she is affectionately called by friends, is part of a group of women known as the ‘Russian fashion pack.’ These young women are making waves in the industry and the group includes Ulyana Sergeenko, a former model now married to a Russian billionaire, fashion designer Vika Gazinskaya who is known for her ever-changing geometric hairstyles and Elena Perminova who is a model and girlfriend to billionaire newspaper owner Alexander Lebedev.

‘It girl’ Duma stands out boldly in this group of fashionistas. She dominates street style blogs and inspires photographers with her style and attention to detail when it comes to wearing top brands in her own way. With her petite stature and natural flair for putting together outfits, she has shifted the stereotypes of Russian style being tight and bright, and is leading the pack in being a style icon. Her eye-catching ensembles and seamless ability to go from heels to Timberlands are some of the few things millions around the world love about her. With an Instagram following of 561,828 and 43,600 followers on Twitter, it proves just how popular and loved she is.

Recycling to survive...

When one is forced to grown up on the streets, its obvious that you will have to have a plan of action for your survival.

He sleeps in the bushes and manages to stay safe, fed, clothed and clean. We spent a day with 'rasta' and he showed us how he makes an honest living...

He walks the streets collecting bottles, cans and any other recyclable material...

After a long day of collecting and gathering, he goes to Kuilsriver waste recycling.

He offloads.

Here he sorts his bottles, breaking them into pieces.

Bottles will only be accepted in this crushed, broken form.

The boroken pieces of bottles are weighed...

All the bottles already weighed, are thrown into these metal containers.

He collects his money.

Thank you Siki Nene for the photographs...
